Green Phantom Quartz is a variety of clear quartz that contains distinct layered green phantom mineral inclusions inside the crystal. The phantom forms when crystal growth pauses temporarily, and mineral-rich sediment (primarily chlorite) coats the existing quartz surface; the quartz then resumes growing over this layer, locking the green “ghost” formation within. It has a Mohs hardness of 7, the same as standard quartz, with a vitreous luster. The green colour mainly comes from chlorite, occasionally mixed with traces of iron oxides. Major mining sources include Brazil, Madagascar, India and Zambia. Each phantom layer records a separate growth cycle, making every specimen unique.
