Leopard Skin Jasper, also known as Leopard Jasper, is a colourful variety of orbicular jasper belonging to the chalcedony and quartz family. It features distinctive rounded, spotted patterns resembling a leopard’s coat, formed by mineral segregation during its formation. The spotted markings are mainly composed of iron oxides, manganese and clay minerals that create grey, brown, tan, cream and rusty red orbicular markings across its base. It has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7, with a smooth, waxy luster after polishing. It forms in sedimentary rock environments. The most well-known source is Mexico; other deposits are found in Brazil. It is commonly cut into tumbled stones, palm stones and cabochons for jewellery.
